What is Emotional Wellbeing?

Your Emotional Wellbeing is about how you're feeling right now, and how well you can cope with daily life. Our wellbeing can change from moment to moment, day to day, or month to month.

These changes can happen because of things that happen to us and sometimes these changes can happen for no reason at all. It can affect the way we feel about ourselves and others, and about the things we face in our lives.

Why is it good to have positive emotional wellbeing:

  • To feel and express a range of emotions
  • To have confidence and positive self-esteem
  • To have good relationships with others
  • To enjoy the world around you
  • To cope with stress and adapt when things change.

Remember though, good wellbeing doesn’t mean you always have to be happy. It is normal to feel sadness, to feel low in your mood, and to feel anxious, but if you feel these feelings for a long time, it can affect how you cope.

How can I look after my wellbeing

Here are some valuable tips to look after and improve your emotional wellbeing on a daily basis: –

  • Connect: Spend time with family and friends.  Enjoy doing things together and talking to each other.
  • Be active:  it keeps you physically healthy, and makes you feel good
  • Keep learning: try something new, try a new hobby, or learn about something just because it interests you.
  • Take notice: take a break to see how you feel. Relax and look around you or listen to music, take a few deep breaths.
  • Give: do something for a friend or relation/adult, as well as making them feel good, it can make you feel good too!
