Healthy eating week

28th September 2020 - 4th October 2020
We are very excited to share with you that it is the British Nutrition’s Foundations healthy eating week this week!
So, why are we talking about this?

The foods we eat have a direct impact on how much energy we have throughout the day, alongside our ability to focus on schoolwork, participate in sports activities and so much more. Our bodies are like a car and need energy/fuel to work properly. This is why starting the day with a healthy breakfast is important.

Did you know, food can also affect your mood?

Have you ever noticed that you feel a bit grouchier when you are hungry? You might also find that you struggle to concentrate just before lunch or dinner, as your body is ready for some more fuel. Therefore, you must have 3 balanced meals a day, to ensure your fuel supply is topped up. Eating a well-balanced diet and keeping your body hydrated can have benefits to our skin, hair and nails. It is also important to stay hydrated by drinking water throughout the day. This will also have an impact on your ability to concentrate in lessons. Your body is made up of up to 60% water and our skin is made up 64% water. This is one of the reasons why what we eat and drink plays an important role in keeping your skin and hair healthy.

The Eatwell Guide shows us what kind of food we should be eating, and how much we should be drinking; which is about 6-8 glasses of water a day.

Have you ever thought about how many drinks you have in a day? And if this is enough to hydrate your body? It is important to also think about sugar. Many of our favourite drinks can contain high levels of sugar, this can affect many different parts of our body, including our teeth by leading to tooth decay. The EatWell Guide shows us how important it is to eat a wide variety of fruit and vegetables. These contain essential vitamins and minerals to keep our bodies healthy.
