£500 for your idea
Did you know? If you’ve got an idea to help improve your community, your local NHS could help with a grant of £500 to make it happen.
Bella, 16, from Havant, was one of the chosen recipients of the 2025-2026 community grant projects.
With ‘an incessant passion to drive up change’, Bella chose to host a dedicated LGBTQIA+ event in her local area, citing ‘a lack of LGBT spaces in Havant and needs a space where we can feel empowered’ after chatting with her friend last December. For months, she worked hard to plan a fun-filled and inclusive day for a cause close to her heart.
Bella said: ”I wanted to foster community spaces to hear others, and for people to feel heard. It all sprouted from an insatiable desire to forge connection through story.”
Bella was made aware of the grants through her connections at The King’s Trust and was encouraged to apply.
The event involved inspiring speakers including personal stories and experiences, a veteran’s experience, local professionals on how their services can help, and a Q&A.
There were also stalls like games, quizzes, leaflets and freebies and thoughtful giftbags to take away.
Bella reflected: “Doing this event has been me clawing myself out of a deep pit of despair, and winning. I believe as a society we need more social awareness of others, particularly towards trans people at the moment.”
Referencing the skills Bella gained organising her event, she had a successful interview with M&S and is due to start her first job with them.
Bella encourages anyone who wishes to help keep her passion alive with new projects, whether it’s fundraising, events, or something else to email empoweringqueervoicesinfo@gmail.com.
