Looking after your weight as part of being healthy

To help young people stay fit and healthy we offer all young people in year 10 the opportunity to have their height and weight measured

Being a healthy weight is an important part of looking after you health and wellbeing. Being overweight can increase the risk of you developing health problems such as diabetes, heart problems and mental health problems.Being underweight can also affect your health.  We offer all young people in year 10 an opportunity to be weighed and measured in school. We do this sensitively and in private and we will send the results to your parents/carers. We will not share the results with your teachers or anyone else. we will send you a letter to your home to explain when we will be visiting your school and asking your to give your permission to be weighed and measured.

Once we have measured you we can tell you whether your weight is in healthy weight range. We use the BMI (body mass index) measure which is a good way of finding out whether a child is a healthy weight. If it isn’t we can help you find services to help support you to manage your weight. We will send the results to your parents/carers

You don’t have to take part, but everyone who is measured is contributing to the national picture about how children and young people are growing. The information collected helps your local NHS to plan and provide better health services for the children in your area.

If you are worried about your weight you can speak to a school nurse for advice and support by sending us a text on our ChatHealth number 07480 635363. You can talk confidentially* to a school nurse
