LGBTQ+

Everyone deserves to feel safe, respected and included. That’s why we support equality and wellbeing for LGBTQ+ young people because being yourself should always be celebrated.

LGBTQ+ is a term for people whose gender or sexuality doesn’t fit into traditional categories. It includes lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or questioning, and the + stands for other identities.

If you’re questioning your sexuality or gender identity, it can feel overwhelming and bring up lots of emotions — for you and for the adults you trust. That’s completely normal. You don’t have to figure it all out alone, so don’t be afraid to reach out for support.

Useful resources

There are several organisations offering information, guidance and support

Allsorts Youth Project: Providing support for LGBTQ+ children, young people and their families across Sussex.

Stonewall: UK charity campaigning for the rights of LGBTQ+ people and providing educational resources.

Mermaids: Offering support to transgender, non-binary and gender-diverse young people and their families.

MindOut: A mental health service run by and for LGBTQ+ people.

These organisations and groups provide safe spaces, resources, and practical support for you. If you’re at school or college, there will also be someone at your school you can speak to.
