Introducing Bradford Youth Justice Nursing Team

The Youth Justice Nursing Service are a small team of people who look after and promote the health needs of children and young people aged 10y to 18+ who become involved in the Criminal Justice System. It is run by Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust (BDCFT).

Who we are

Bradford Youth Justice Service (YJS) is comprised of members of the police, children’s social care, probation, health and education. They also work with other services such as voluntary sector agencies and charities.

BDCFT has a small team of Nurses who form part of this service.

What do the team do?

They offer face-to-face health assessments, where they can discuss any health issues or concerns. Their aim to work with Bradford Youth Justice Service to ensure that any extra health support which might be needed is managed or signposted to the most appropriate service for further review. 

What support can the team provide?

The aim of the team is to help improve children and young people’s overall health and wellbeing. They can support with a number of health issues such as: 

  • Struggling with the way you might be thinking or feeling about things
  • Missed or due childhood immunisations

  • Relationships (not just intimate partners, but friends or other people).
  • Smoking and/or vaping
  • Drugs and/or alcohol
  • Discussions regarding gender, or sexual orientation (LGBTQ)
  • Discussions or advice about healthy lifestyles.

When are the team available?

Monday – Friday 8.30.- 5pm (excluding bank holidays)
