It can be awkward and sometimes feel embarrassing but it’s NORMAL. Join us for a chat on Monday 20th June 4:30pm – 5pm and connect with other young people, ask questions, find answers and discuss.

So what body changes take place during puberty?

Changes for boys:
* Puberty starts between 12 and 18 years old and lasts different lengths of time for everyone, between 2 to 4 years
* Start to grow body hair and facial hair
* voice changes
* Get taller, bigger and more muscular
* you penis and testicles (balls) get bigger and you may start to get an erection
* wet dreams - a release of sperm in your sleep
* you might get spots
* you might sweat more
* you might feel more moody

Changes for girls:
* starts beteeen the ages of 10 to 16 years old and can last between 2 to 4 years
* grow taller
* breasts and hips start to grow (more body curves)
* grow hair under your arms and between your legs. The hair on your legs may get darker. Some girls grow hair on their upper lip too.
*you might get spots
* you might sweat more
* periods will start
* you may get more moody

During puberty, you have lots of emotions and sexual feelings.
Some young people may also be confused about their sexual identity and may feel attracted to members of the same sex.
It is important to talk to somebody about these feelings to help make sense of them such as your parents, school nurse, teacher or someone that you trust.

Puberty myths:
* If you haven't started puberty by the age of 10 you should see a doctor.
Puberty starts at different times for different people

*Constantly having mood swings means that there is something wrong with you.
Mood swings are completely normal.

* Girls breasts stop growing once they start having periods.
Breasts can keep growing until they are in their late teens or even when they are adults.
