Hi
Todays webchat will be starting in 10minutes

Chat Health (Nurse - Moderator) / 25 Apr 15:27

Do you have any thoughts on food manufacturers - saying how often you should eat their foods

SleepyCracken / 25 Apr 15:28

I heard that McDonalds is healthy as they use 100% beef. Is this true?

JumpingBear / 25 Apr 15:29

What's bad about ready made meals?

SleepyCracken / 25 Apr 15:30

Food manufacturers should provide food that is healthy to eat. They shouldn't provide food that is so bad you can only eat it once or twice a week.

Chat Health (Nurse - Moderator) / 25 Apr 15:33

It good that they are using a 100% beef but what you have to look for is what else is in the food how much fat and salt

Chat Health (Nurse - Moderator) / 25 Apr 15:38

Some ready made meals can be healthy you need to get label wise if choosing these options, the majority of ready made meals now have information on the front of the packet that is colour coded with red, amber & green for fat, saturated fat, sugar & salt

SleepyCracken / 25 Apr 15:38

I don't understand why salt is bad for you. I know people that put it on all their food and they are fine.

JumpingBear / 25 Apr 15:39

What do i do if i don't have enough time to cook food. Sometimes i have to eat ready meals

PaintingDonkey / 25 Apr 15:39

Why is sugar bad for you? I really really love it, it's the first ingredient on all my favouorite chocolates!!!

Chat Health (Nurse - Moderator) / 25 Apr 15:41

too much salt can increase your blood pressure which can be bad for your heart
the maximum amount of salt you should be having a day is 6g (about a teaspoon) most of the salt eaten tends to come from processed foods

JumpingBear / 25 Apr 15:42

Whats the normal amount of sugar intake i should have a day?

PaintingDonkey / 25 Apr 15:43

My brother told me to exercise regularly.. why is thing good for me?

Chat Health (Nurse - Moderator) / 25 Apr 15:45

Eating too much sugar can affect your health such as increase your risk of type 2 diabetes, it is not good for your teeth sugar does not contain any nutrients (vitamins, minerals, protein) just empty calories

PaintingDonkey / 25 Apr 15:45

I love fizzy drinks but I heard they're not too good for you... How much water should I drink everyday?

JumpingBear / 25 Apr 15:48

Ready made meals what's a quick alternative?

Chat Health (Nurse - Moderator) / 25 Apr 15:48

Sugar intake should be around 5-6teaspoons a day around 20g this does not include fruit but this does include all the processed foods with sugar in them

JumpingBear Chat Health (Nurse - Moderator) / 25 Apr 15:49

So is it just processed foods that have a lot of saturated salts and sugar?

Chat Health (Nurse - Moderator) / 25 Apr 15:51

Yes sugar containing fizzy drinks are very high in sugar a can of coke has 9teasponns of sugar
Ideally you should have 6-8 drinks everyday more if is hot or you have been very active
Water is the best drink

Chat Health (Nurse - Moderator) / 25 Apr 15:53

Being active is very good for you try and be active for 60mins a day - ok this sounds a lot but it can be split up into sections of time 10- 15mins or even 30mins try walking to school or get off the bus a stop earlier on the way home

Chat Health (Nurse - Moderator) / 25 Apr 15:58

Fat, sugar & salt in ready made meals - check out the label on the front try to buy food that have lots of greens on the label and not red

Chat Health (Nurse - Moderator) / 25 Apr 15:59
