Cyber bullying

Cyber bullying is a form of bullying using the medium of technology.

Cyber bullying can take place via several mediums including but not limited to:

  • Text messaging and instant messaging
  • Email
  • Social media forums such as Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, snapchat
  • Gaming forums
  • Blogs
  • Chat rooms

Did you know the following examples are forms of cyber bullying?

  • Emailing or texting threatening messages
  • Posting embarrassing videos of someone online or sharing with friends
  • Making abusive comments
  • Spreading rumours and gossip
  • Harassment
  • Stalking
  • Belittling or mocking
  • Impersonating
  • Excluding and ignoring
  • Posting or sharing personal information or images without the person’s permission.

If you are being cyber bullied do talk to someone whether it be a parent, teacher or the school nurse.  All schools have a responsibility to ensure safety of students and ensure they aren’t being bullied.  Keep evidence such as threatening messages as you can also report serious incidents such as threats to the police.
